For as long as I can remember, yoga and meditation have been a part of my life, thanks primarily to my Mom, a veteran yoga teacher. “Don’t forget to breathe, Ad”, was almost daily advice for school, sports, music, stress, doing the dishes… you name it. Short impromptu family meditation sessions were offered frequently. Mom even invited us to “Aum” with her in the car as a kids.
After coming to yoga and meditation slowly as an adult (“on MY OWN TERMS,” says my stubborn pride), I have now spent 10+ years in health/fitness/yoga/mindfulness realms and have witnessed the impact that this simple practice can have on anyone who gives it some attention. Personally, meditation has been transformational.
I have learned so much from friends, biz partners (lookin’ at you, Robert Sidoti), colleagues, and the incredible students/teachers we’ve grown alongside. I have also learned (and am still learning) much about what it means to be a Husband, a Dad, a brother, a son, a friend – aka “alive”. For that, meditation is a masterful tutor.
The biggest takeaway from this project, (aside from the fact that writing a book is both much harder and much easier than I’d imagined), is that meditation is powerful and it should be a part of your life. It is simple and elegant, but so awesomely powerful. If you haven’t, I urge you to try it. Even a 3 to 5 minute practice has lasting benefits.
The book contains 60 carefully crafted practices to help you achieve calm, release stress, and improve sleep. They vary in length, style, complexity, and approach. An experienced meditator will find value, but these practices are crafted with beginners in mind.
